And These are the Moments I Love

Do you ever see photos and wish that you could just be in that moment? I grew up on Anne of Green Gables which instilled this dreamer part of me. Lately, I’ve seen so many beautiful photographs that I wish I could just jump in for a moment in time.

These are some of my favorites.

I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads. Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it.

We should come home from adventures, and perils, and discoveries everyday with new experiences and character.

Diana Barry: I wish I were rich, and I could spend the whole summer at a hotel, eating ice cream and chicken salad.
Anne Shirley: You know something, Diana? We are rich. We have sixteen years to our credit, and we both have wonderful imaginations. We should be as happy as queens.
[gestures to the setting sun]
Anne Shirley: Look at that. You couldn’t enjoy its loveliness more if you had ropes of diamonds.

Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one’s life with pomp and blare, like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one’s side like an old friend through quiet ways; perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose, until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed the rhythm and the music; perhaps . . . perhaps . . . love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath.

Anne Shirley: Would you please call me Cordelia?

[Anne of Green Gables]

True friends are always together in spirit.

[Anne of Green Gables]

The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn and real and change and grow and love and live.

Roman Holiday: Kansas City

Roman Holiday.

As a child I grew up on black and white films. Mickey Rooney, Jimmy Steward, Katherine Hepburn, Clark Gable, and Doris Day were all my favorites movie stars. I absolutely loved the comedy, the romance, and the stories. Out of all the stars of that era though, my absolute favorite was of course Audrey Hepburn. I suppose one could say she is a role model.

Summer Twenty Ten I was spending a couple weeks at the Shenandoah Estate (my home in San Diego) and of course made sure I had time to catch up on some of my Audrey films. I remember it like it was yesterday, I was watching “Roman Holiday” and was completely inspired by Audrey’s role. In the film Audrey plays a princess whose time is managed by every but her. One night she comes to the conclusion that she will not allow for this to happen any longer. In the middle of the night Audrey sneaks out of the palace and wanders around a new city. Over the course of the next 24 hours Audrey goes on an adventure of a lifetime as she meets a stranger and tries things she’s done before. She throws caution to the wind and leaves the responsibilities of the day behind.

Naturally, I decided that I too ought to have Roman Holidays. So, every year I take random trips and adventure in a new city.

This April to celebrate my twenty-fifth birthday I took off on my Roman Holiday and went to the beautiful Kansas City.

Here’s a peek of my Holiday.

We arrived in the city at the perfect time. Like Audrey, my girls and I adventured into the heart of the city. We found the Power and Lights district with the most amazing Piano Bars. Of course, being a lover of all things music I was in LOVE.

The next morning we dined at McCoy’s a lovely little restaurant right outside of the Plaza.

We were told by the locals to try the best coffee in town from the Broadway Cafe. After strolling around for awhile we finally found it. The locals told no lies when they said it was the best coffee.

And of course we stopped for a mini photoshoot…

It’s impossible to take a road trip to Kansas City with out taking a drive down the Plaza and stopping at some of the best shops! Hello Hello H&M, Anthro, and Urban!!

So there it is. My Roman Holiday. My challenge to you– is to take a break from the day to day. Go on an adventure, try something new, take time to be inspired. We have our wholes lives to work and let our time be managed by other people… so make sure to take some time for yourself and ENJOY your life.

Take A Risk.

Today: Live with courage- take a risk.

One Republic wrote, “Oh this has got to be the good life, This could really be a good life.” This is the good life. Life is what you make of it. So today, step out, live with courage, and take a risk. Life ought to be an adventure. Our lives are stories waiting to be written, and YOU have the ability to write and shape your story. So what will you do today to write a story of adventure?

No one great ever accomplished anything by being “comfortable”. All the great men and women that we hear about all had something in common: they took a risk. You see, comfortability is poison. Don’t let the fear of being “uncomfortable” paralyze you from living the life you always imagined. We all have dreams and desires inside of us that are a little… intimidating and maybe even nerve wracking to think about stepping towards. Maybe your dream is to move across the world and do international projects, start a business, write a book, or impact the world through music (obviously the list could continue but you get the picture). We think to ourselves “But what if I fail?”. Here’s a proposal- If you fail. Okay. So you failed. You learned a thing or two- and so you pick yourself back up and try again. But here’s a question- What if you don’t fail? What if you succeed?

The world is waiting for people to take risks. To show them how to really live life to the fullest. To inspire them. Will you be the risk taker that they look to?
